Linlithgow Link Car Service

Our Car Scheme Gets You To Where You Need To Be

For those unable or have difficulty using public transport we can arrange for a friendly volunteer driver to take the client to their medical appointment using their own car.

A nominal change is paid directly to the volunteer driver.   This is based on the mileage of the journey and the current rate is 45p per mile.  Linlithgow Link does not benefit from this payment.

If you are not already a member of Linlithgow Link, please note prior to completing the request form online, you must contact the office staff (01506 845137) who will organise an information pack to be sent to you including guidelines/data protection documentation which is a legal requirement.

The service is greatly used and very much appreciated by the service users, please see Betty’s testimonial below the form…

Testimonial

When a school teacher, I was said to be in loca parentis (in place of parents) when in charge of a class.

Now that my life is in reverse I think of that phrase as applicable to the very special Linlithgow Link. Apart from the skills apparent in their organisational work, the hard work, physical and mental, is evidenced in their achievements executed with great patience by all (we “oldies” can be very trying!), from the pillars of reliability in the office, through the committee, to the indefatigable volunteers al in loco parentis.

Unexpected surprises constantly delight us e.g. “goodie bags”, phone calls to check on your wellbeing; treats in shops, canal boats or a steam train; “old” is no excuse they will get you there!

Special times are not to be missed, be it Christmas, Easter, a birthday or Burn’s Supper. All recognised in delightful ways. Personally I am deeply indebted to Link for engaging with volunteers (who are so generous with their time and cars) to drive to appointments, mainly hospital sometimes a fair distance away. Thanks are not enough, they need a tsunami of gratitude.

In terms of in loco parentis I have learned much from the organised programmes of speakers; I have been uplifted and delighted by the entertainment, sometimes professional often by the wounded volunteers. We are encouraged by to be entertaining ourselves occasionally!

I feel very “cared for” by Link and pray they can continue, in spite of current difficulties, what they do in such a caring way.
